Application Engineer at AESEAL, Inc.

The Application Engineer is responsible for reviewing and supporting the application of products to a variety of industries.    Communicating through each of the channels to market, the Application Engineer works closely to understand how the product is to be applied, installed and set-up for operational success.   This means understanding mechanical integrity issues and using resources to teach and educate each individual in the end-user supply chain to address these issues.   In addition, working closely with the design engineering team to create innovative solutions that can be configured to order.      As products are returned for analysis, the Application Engineer will assist with failure analysis to investigate factors that impact long-term performance.

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited University required
  • 5 – 10 years of experience with rotating equipment or the application of sealing devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and interpretation of customer requirements in order to support sealing solutions addressing the fit and function of our products in a wide variety of rotating equipment with the objective of adding value in terms of improved reliability for the end-user.  Incorporation of industry standards, American Petroleum Institute (API), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and other applicable standards pertinent to the customer’s application requirements. Direct interaction with the technical sales team and customers as a sounding board and technical resource on specific applications
  • Sealing device performance is impacted by mechanical and/or operational performance issues.  Due to the critical role the sealing device component plays, the Application Engineer will develop expertise in mechanical integrity, equipment reliability and will understand the chemical process flow and operational conditions.
  • Evaluate and interpret specifications for technical and commercial submittals.  Provide supporting documentation requirements for Engineering Procurement and Construction (EPC), Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) and other stakeholders.
  • Trouble-shoot and conduct failure analysis creating observation reports and communicate results in order to develop specific improvement solutions in partnership with end-users.    Engage in root-cause-failure-analysis (RCFA) when situations warrant a systematic and comprehensive investigation.
  • Contribute to a global knowledge database.  Using a secured portal, AESSEAL maintains a central/global chemical database, machinery database, and industry process database.    In addition, drawing searches for assembled products can be directly accessed by any team member and pre-approved customers.

  • Excellent mechanical aptitude and ability to read, interpret and create detailed drawings.
  • Ability to visualize and understand the function of rotating equipment and to be able to understand any potential mechanical integrity issues.   Judgment to evaluate causal relationships and to qualify non-causal factors.
  • Strong understanding of fluid dynamics, tribology, and thermodynamics
  • Strong understanding of industrial chemical processes and how process upsets can impact equipment reliability.
  • Knowledge about materials of construction including metallurgy, elastomers and face materials.

Senior Design Engineer at AESEAL, Inc.

The Senior Design Engineer is responsible for creating design based application solutions built around the company’s modular “standardized-special” strategic approach.  The design team works with the latest tools: designing in Solid Edge 3-D for complex machine tools such as 9-axis machining centers. Workflow and application information for design creation and engineering revisions are controlled using Siemens Teamcenter®PLM.  The position integrates and supports a global design team all operating from the same design platforms, standards and machine, and tool inventories

Preferred Education and Experience:

  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering from an accredited University required
  • 5 – 10 years of experience with rotating equipment or the design of sealing devices.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Evaluation and interpretation of customer requirements in order to develop sealing solutions addressing the fit and function of our products in a wide variety of rotating equipment with the objective of adding value in terms of improved reliability for the end-user.  Incorporation of industry standards, American Petroleum Institute (API), American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and other applicable standards pertinent to the customer’s application requirements. Customer facing, when required, to ensure the accuracy of application inputs.
  • Oversee the creation of design solutions of standardized special products that can be machined using defined tool inventories.   Design creation encompasses initial conceptual design to assembly approval drawings and engineered component manufacturing drawings.  The product portfolio includes mechanical seals, bearing protection sealing devices and seal support systems.
  • Workflow coordination with the global design team, verification, and conformance to meet design inputs, final sign-off for all special and engineered designs to ensure company design standards are followed and met.
  • Provide analysis and estimations to meet commercial gate justification.    Provide communication and support to the Application Engineering Team and Commercial sales support department with input into evaluating the proposed return-on-investment
  • Control the work-flow and productivity of the department in Teamcenter with specific oversight to the sign-offs required throughout the product life cycle.      Attention to quality and manufacturing methods, such as test fixtures, bill of materials, assembly procedures and installation, operational and maintenance (IOM) instructions.
  • Leadership role in a professional work environment, where decisions are made on objective criteria while interfacing with a United Kingdom-based global product development team. Reliability Engineer at Domtar (Kingsport, TN)

The Reliability Engineer will report to the Reliability Superintendent Maintenance Department, Kingsport Mill. The successful candidate will provide support for the needs of the business in the maintenance reliability function.

Purpose:

– Improve Reliability Core Processes
– Improve Reliability of problematic and critical assets
– Review PM and PdM strategies and improve or modify as appropriate

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Provide maintenance engineering, technical assistance & reliability leadership/support.
  • Identify & implement improvements in process & equipment reliability across the Mill by working closely with operations & maintenance personnel.
  • Coordinate & supervise both Mill & contract personnel as needed.
  • Serve as a key interface for Reliability improvement by reviewing equipment history & performing failure cause analysis.
  • Review existing preventive maintenance processes for value to the maintenance effort & propose changes as necessary to improve the reliability of the assets.
  • Guide efforts to maintain and/or improve reliability of plant equipment and processes.
  • Define, develop, administer and refine the equipment asset care, condition monitoring and preventative maintenance programs.
  • Inspect completed projects to ensure conformance with design standards.
  • Support Maintenance teams: Help resolve technical issues or repair procedures as required.
  • Execute outage work/projects as assigned.
  • Provides existing support to activities in the use of instrument and electrical devices for industrial use.
  • Estimate cost of work orders in terms of direct labor and materials required.
  • Submits work orders for approval.
  • Reserves materials from mill stores or issues requisitions to the purchasing department.
  • Assigns tradesperson(s) in collaboration with the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Schedules work orders based on availability of parts while maintaining required backlogs.
  • Seeks assistance of trade’s people in the planning process.
  • Prepares plans and schedules monthly area shutdowns in collaboration with the Maintenance and Operations supervisors.
  • Maintains backlog files of work orders and prepares backlog reports.
  • In accordance with standard practice, ensures all necessary information has been provided for close out of the work orders.

Required Qualifications/Professional Experience:

  • B.S. in Engineering required.
  • Rotating equipment troubleshooting aptitude.

  • 5 years of industrial experience as a Reliability Engineer.
  • Reliability Certification (such as CRL, CRE, or CRMP, etc.)

Reliability Engineering & Maintenance Leader at Domtar (Ashdown, AR)

The Reliability Superintendent provides leadership and support to improve and optimize process and production systems reliability. This role interacts with all of maintenance and all operating areas. The Reliability Engineer reports to the Maintenance Manager.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Lead the following “One Domtar” Reliability Work Stream efforts for an area of the mill:
    • Planning and Scheduling
    • Precision, Preventive and Predictive Maintenance
    • Lubrication routes, Vibration Analysis routes, IR analyses and other techniques
  • Ensure systems are in place for maintenance and operations to use to better understand, monitor and communicate the health of all production processes and equipment.
  • Review and follow-up on equipment failures, utilizing root cause failure analysis, and offer solutions and own corrective action to prevent future failures.
  • Champion and lead the Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) process for the area.
  • Lead Asset Strategy Development for the area
  • Integrate reliability centered maintenance, risk based inspections, equipment condition monitoring, root cause analysis, critical spare parts management and other reliability best practices in normal day-to-day activities
  • Provide technical expertise for the analysis, development and evaluation of new maintenance technologies and equipment, and fully utilize all existing technology.
  • Serve as a resource for operators and maintenance to learn and understand more about maintenance processes and their related systems and strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement within processes, equipment/controls, environmental/safety areas, employee work environment, costs, quality, etc…
  • Manage maintenance KPI’s and their reporting.
  • Support the mill’s ISO requirements.
  • Assist on mill wide projects as needed.

  •  BS Degree in Mechanical Engineering required
  • Minimum of 2 years in a continuous process industry
  • Rotating equipment troubleshooting aptitude
  • Some Experience in utilizing reliability systems, methods and processes
  • Knowledgeable in using SAP PM Applications or ability to learn
  • Must have good interpersonal and leadership skills with the ability to interact at all organizational levels
  • Be highly motivated, innovative and results oriented
